First Impressions
Best Western Amsterdam sits in the Slotervaart district, and honestly, when I first pulled up, I wasn’t sure what to expect. It’s not exactly the postcard-perfect canal district you see in all the photos, but that actually worked in my favor. The three-star property has this straightforward, no-nonsense vibe that I found refreshing after dealing with some of the stuffier places in the city center.
Location Reality Check
Look, Slotervaart isn’t where the tour buses drop everyone off, and that’s kind of the point. You’re about 15 minutes by tram from the main attractions in Amsterdam, which means you get to see how locals actually live. There’s a decent Albert Heijn supermarket nearby, and I mean decent — you can grab breakfast supplies without paying tourist prices. The parking situation here is also way less stressful than trying to navigate the city center with a car.
The Room Experience
My room was exactly what I needed — clean, functional, with that classic Best Western reliability. The bed was comfortable enough, and the bathroom had good water pressure, which you know matters after a long day walking around. Nothing fancy, but everything worked properly. The windows actually open (not a given in many hotels), and you get a view of the neighborhood that feels authentically Dutch rather than Instagram-perfect.
Practical Details
The staff here genuinely knows their stuff about getting around Amsterdam. They don’t just hand you a generic tourist map — they’ll tell you which tram lines to take and when to avoid the crowds at major attractions. The restaurant serves a solid breakfast that’ll fuel you for the day, though I’d recommend exploring the neighborhood for dinner. There’s this Indonesian place about a 10-minute walk away that locals frequent, and the hotel folks pointed me toward it.
Why Guests Actually Choose It
Here’s the thing about this Best Western — it delivers on the basics without trying to be something it’s not. You’re getting a reliable place to sleep in Amsterdam without paying canal-view prices. The neighborhood gives you a real sense of how the city works beyond the tourist zones, and honestly, that made my trip more interesting. It’s perfect if you want to explore Amsterdam properly rather than just hitting the obvious spots and calling it done.

What Our Guests Say
Superb What could be improved: The self check in and the double payment for breakfast.
Very good What could be improved: Very very very long to register.... The system was complicated lots of people were stuck ... it took more than 1 hour to take my key...
It was great, easy access to the city centre via tram Location and cleanliness was great
What could be improved: Nothing, no complaints
Nice stay Very clean and cozy rooms, comfy beds and coffee/tea available in the room for free. The rooms were cleaned daily and towels substituted too. The staff was very friendly too. Tram and metro reachable in 10min walk
What could be improved: Walls are a little thin, you can hear noises from other rooms
Very good It was an unexpected stay in Amsterdam as we missed our connecting flight due to previous flight delays. The room was clean, tidy and nice, however, when we arrive at around midnight for check-in, there were maybe 100 people queuing in the lobby, probably are people who missed their connecting flight as well. There are 4 self check-in machines, however staff didn’t help at all. Some people occupied the machines for a long time but refused to pay for whatever reasons, and don’t let others to use for checking in.
The breakfast was ok-ish, I would recommend to have breakfast elsewhere if you have a better option.
What could be improved: We stayed in room 409, there is unfortunately a motorway right out of the window, constant traffic noise. We stay just one night for catching our rebooked flight next day, so it was ok.
Good mid range hotel choice Good sized room
Mini fridge
Coffee tea maker
Hotel 5 minutes from Westlandgracht Line 2 tram
Very clean
Albert Heijn and Lidl stores 5 minutes from hotel
Hotel generally is not noisy
Friendly staff and efficient check in
What could be improved: Second night of stay there seemed to be noise from room above. Probably just inconsiderate guests. From previous stays the Best Western is usually quite .
Minor traffic noise from motorway which seems to be busy both day and night .
Very good It was the most competitive hotel we could booked at the short time frame to book. There is a tram station nearby, about 7 minutes walking distance, there are some fast food and supermarket nearby. Room are clean in general.
What could be improved: Acoustic is not very good, you can hear people above us. Our window is facing the hotel inside courtyard where people can see directly into our room, so we kept the curtain closed mostly.
Decent hotel with small rooms A few mins walk to the tram station. Grocery store is one block away.
What could be improved: Room was very small
Excellent will be back Pizza vending machine, friendly staff. Rooms were spacious
What could be improved: Absolutely nothing
Beautiful place to recover after a very long journey It was quite and spaced, also comfy beds and pillows. Very tasty food and good quality A lot of variety and options at the breakfast
What could be improved: The shower was without cabin and water was going everywhere but it was good. Not too bad after all
