First Impressions
B&B The Catch Apartment sits right on Vijzelstraat, and honestly, the location alone made me do a double-take when I first walked up. You’re literally in the heart of Amsterdam here β I mean, you can practically roll out of bed and be at the floating flower market in five minutes. The building itself has that classic Amsterdam canal house feel, though it’s been updated enough that you won’t be dealing with creaky old everything.
The Space
What struck me about this three-star place is how they’ve managed to pack so much functionality into what could easily feel cramped. The apartment setup is brilliant β you get your own space with a proper kitchenette that actually works (I made coffee there every morning, no complaints). The room itself feels bigger than you’d expect, probably because they haven’t crammed unnecessary furniture everywhere like some places do.
Location Reality Check
Here’s what I wish someone had told me before I arrived: Vijzelstraat can get busy during the day, but it’s the good kind of busy. You’ve got the Rijksmuseum literally around the corner, and if you walk the other direction for maybe ten minutes, you’re at Dam Square. The tram stops are so close you’ll barely need to check the schedule β just head out when you’re ready.
Practical Stuff That Matters
The kitchenette situation is actually pretty solid for a place like this. I’m talking real plates, decent coffee setup, even a little fridge that doesn’t sound like it’s dying. You know what I appreciated? The Wi-Fi worked consistently, and there’s enough space to spread out your stuff without feeling like you’re living out of a suitcase. The bathroom’s compact but functional β typical Amsterdam, really.
Why Guests Keep Coming Back
Look, this isn’t trying to be fancy, and that’s exactly why it works so well. You get the independence of having your own place without paying hotel prices for every little thing. I watched other travelers come and go during my stay, and everyone seemed to have that same “oh, this is perfect” realization. The 8.2 rating makes sense when you factor in what you’re actually getting for the price in this part of Amsterdam. It’s one of those places where you end up staying longer than planned because everything just… works.

What Our Guests Say
It was exactly what we were looking for - centrally located, easily accessible, clean + tidy! The location was great - close to just about everything!
Excellent stay Clean and spacious and a great location too
Modern well appointed apartment in a perfect location πΊ in a The Catch is in a prime position opposite the famous flower market & perfect for a city break. The property is set over three floors and tastefully decorated. The main living space is comfortable with a great view and was our favourite space. The master bedroom overlooks the bustling street with a very comfortable bed (the mounted television doesnβt work) The 24 hour telephone support was so reassuring especially as we arrived late evening. On reflection this is ideal property for a couple sharing the main bedroom. The second bedroom needs reviewing.
What could be improved: The biggest drawback for us is the second bedroom. Itβs built on an open mezzanine level within the roof space. Access is up a utility pull down attic ladder through a hatch. Thereβs a small double bed that you can only get into from the bottom. Thereβs no head board so the pillows constantly fall off. You canβt sit up in bed and read with a cuppa. You also have the hatch hole at the bottom of the bed so please be careful. All bed linens were soft and clean but mismatched and unironed. The βbalconyβ was a rather underwhelming space that looked out onto the backs of adjoining apartments. Clever use of trellis and climbing plants would improve this aspect
Iβm coming back in December and hopefully this is available Location is perfect, clean tidy comfy
What could be improved: The stairs after a couple beers
We enjoyed it overall. Great location
What could be improved: Lots of stairs but possibly normal in Amsterdam. Second bedroom was in the attic with pulldown ladder. That was a surprise and not suitable for older folks. Initially it was hard to find, had to ask around.
Superb The apartment was excellent.
Location amazing. Can walk anywhere.
What could be improved: The spa bath π was inoperable. But everything was ok.
Everything was close by, including restaurants. The location and view were excellent!
What could be improved: I did not like the attic stairs to the loft bedroom. It did not mention this on the property website. There are at least 50 stairs from the street to the attic bedroom. Tough to get our luggage up to the main area. We would not recommend this place if you have any disability issues or if you are over the age of 60.
It was okay The location is amazing and the place is spacious and clean.
What could be improved: The apartment is located in the second floor and the stairs are way too narrow! It was so challenging taking the bags up and down!
The location added to our memorable stay in Amsterdam Absolutely great location⦠so close to everything. The apartment is very spacious and the different areas were good for down time.
Great place to stay, we will be back Our host was great and answered any questions we had before he left. The location was amazing. You can see the flower market from the sittingroom window. Loads of places to eat and shop right on your doorstep. It is a little noisy at night. We still slept fine, but it is on a busy enough street. If you're a light sleeper, just bring some earplugs. We would 100% stay here again.
What could be improved: Nothing really
