First Impressions
When I first spotted B&B Houseboat Amsterdam moored along Cas Oorthuyskade, I honestly wasn’t sure what to expect. I mean, staying on a houseboat sounds romantic in theory, but would it actually be comfortable? The moment I stepped aboard, those doubts vanished — this isn’t some cramped vessel playing pretend hotel.
The Experience
This four-star floating accommodation sits in Amsterdam’s Indische Buurt, which locals know as one of the city’s most authentic neighborhoods. You’re away from the tourist crowds here, but still perfectly positioned to explore. The gentle rocking motion takes maybe ten minutes to get used to, and then it becomes weirdly soothing — like being rocked to sleep each night.
What struck me most was how spacious the room felt despite being on water. The owners clearly know what they’re doing when it comes to maximizing space without making you feel cramped. Large windows let in tons of natural light, and honestly, waking up to water views never gets old.
Location & Neighborhood
The Indische Buurt area is where real Amsterdammers live, work, and hang out. You’ve got the Oosterpark just a short walk away — perfect for morning runs or lazy afternoon picnics. The neighborhood’s got this laid-back vibe that’s completely different from the chaos around Dam Square or the Red Light District.
Getting into central Amsterdam takes about 15 minutes by tram or bike (because this is Amsterdam, after all). The tram stop is practically around the corner, and there’s decent parking nearby if you’re driving — though I’d recommend against it in this city.
Practical Details
The hosts actually live nearby and are incredibly responsive without being intrusive. They’ll give you the real scoop on where to eat, which markets to visit, and how to avoid the tourist traps. There’s a cozy breakfast setup, and the small kitchenette means you can prepare simple meals if you want to save some euros.
WiFi works perfectly fine, which surprised me a bit — I wasn’t sure how reliable internet would be on a floating accommodation. The bathroom is compact but well-designed, with a surprisingly good shower. Hot water pressure is solid, which matters more than you’d think after walking around Amsterdam all day.
Why Guests Love It
Look, this place isn’t for everyone — if you need a huge spa or room service, book elsewhere. But if you want something genuinely different without sacrificing comfort, B&B Houseboat Amsterdam delivers. The 9.2 rating makes sense once you experience it yourself.
What really sets it apart is the combination of novelty and practicality. You’re staying on water in one of Europe’s most canal-focused cities, but you’re not roughing it. It’s that sweet spot between adventure and comfort that’s surprisingly hard to find.

What Our Guests Say
This beautiful place all around was a perfect finale for our Netherlands trip! The view, sounds and the breeze on the deck, spacious wooden interior, kind hosts who helped us above and beyond. Lots of restaurants nearby and also walking to a beach.
What could be improved: Nothing!
Exceptional We loved the location and the unique experience of staying on a boat. The owners were wonderful. A great relaxing way to end our vacation. Thank you!!
Floating comfort, local charm and a sauna bliss I stayed on this boat during my trip to Amsterdam, and honestly—it was such a vibe. It’s tucked away just outside the tourist chaos, so you get peace and quiet without feeling disconnected. The tram to the center is quick and easy (I got spoiled with the convenience).
The sauna was a dream after long days of exploring, and the projector/sound system setup made for cozy movie nights on the water. I also really appreciated the little touches—great tea selection, a proper coffee machine (life saver), and the daily check-ins from the owners made me feel genuinely cared for, not just another guest.
One thing to note: there’s a narrow staircase from the entrance hatch, so probably not ideal if stairs aren’t your thing. And the bed has two single mattresses side-by-side—cute in theory, but I was solo and kept slowly drifting into the crack like a human bookmark. Not a dealbreaker, just part of the charm!
All in all, a unique and super comfy stay with thoughtful hosts. Would totally come back—next time with a travel buddy to fill the mattress gap ;)
An absolute must! Highly recommended! Absolutely loved staying on the boat!! You can clearly see the love and care that went into creating this space for visitors. Simply one of a kind.
Great location, easily connected with public transport. Nice and quiet residential area (ideal for families) and with everything you need close by (supermarket, shops, cafe, etc.)
We really enjoyed our stay and can highly recommend.
Lovely memorable experience, staying in a uniquely beautiful boathouse, perfect base for exploring Amsterdam Beautiful, unique, distinctive, comfortable, luxurious
What could be improved: Nothing
Love it! The room is fully equipped. Clean, located in the beautiful and quiet environment. In a walking distance, you can find supermarket, cafe, nice restaurant.
Not difficult to get into the city.
Nice and friendly owner.
I enjoyed everything and really relaxed when i stayed there.
What could be improved: Everything
Exceptional 5 stars it's not enought, everything was perfect ! Special thanks for our sweet hosts <3
Excellent stay in Amsterdam Best accommodation in Amsterdam - So different yet comfortable. Highly recommend for anyone staying in Amsterdam to check this out.
What could be improved: Houseboat gave a different feel and also the owners are super friendly and very accomodating.
Charming and comfortable. Very pleasant hosts. Very unique and memorable. The hosts were charming. They live on the other side of the boat. They were responsive and brought us a lovely breakfast. Part of the package if we preferred was to get breakfast at a local cafe with espresso, fresh natural juices and a delicious spread of cheese, fruit, and bagels. The boat was delightful. Clean and spacious area. Bathroom is small but has a really great shower and sauna. The boat is docked at a jetty that requires a passcode to enter so it is very safe. Everyone is very friendly. Some great restaurants about a mile and a half away by walking along the water. Recommend the Kitchen of Happiness (had great mix of really fresh Asian food). The boat is on the water and you can gently feel some of the sways of the water but steady and doesn't cause any sea-sickness. Beautiful sound of water and birds outside of the windows.
What could be improved: Be sure to be prepared to walk up and down winding stairs to get to the room. It's not walking distance from the center of the city but easily accessible by taking the tram which costs just about 7-8 dollars per day. Mo temperature controls but it was mild while we there so pleasant.
Exceptional Very friendly, great Breakfast, top location, 100% recommendation!
