First Impressions
Walking up to 7B&B on Oude Hoogstraat, you’ll notice it’s tucked into one of those classic Amsterdam canal houses that makes you feel like you’ve stepped into a postcard. The building itself has that authentic Dutch charm — you know, the narrow facade with tall windows that somehow manages to look both historic and welcoming. What struck me immediately was how quiet this little street feels despite being smack in the center of everything. I mean, you’re literally in the heart of Amsterdam, but there’s this peaceful residential vibe that’s honestly pretty rare to find in such a central location.
Location Magic
Here’s the thing about staying on Oude Hoogstraat — you’re positioned perfectly between the Red Light District and Nieuwmarkt, which means you can walk to pretty much everything worth seeing in about five minutes. The Anne Frank House? Eight-minute stroll. Dam Square? Maybe ten minutes if you walk slowly. But what I really loved was being close to all those hidden brown cafés and local spots that tourists usually miss because they’re staying further out. This four-star place has seriously nailed the location game — couples especially seem to get it, and I can see why.
The Room Experience
The room I stayed in had that perfect balance of old-world character and modern comfort that’s actually harder to pull off than you’d think. The ceilings were higher than I expected, and the windows let in tons of natural light during the day. What really impressed me was the attention to detail in the furnishings; everything felt thoughtfully chosen rather than just ordered from some hotel catalog. The bathroom was compact but well-designed, which is pretty much what you’d expect in a historic Amsterdam building. Honestly, after spending days walking around the city, having a comfortable bed and a quiet space to retreat to made all the difference.
Neighborhood Vibes
One thing that surprised me was how local this area still feels, even with all the tourist attractions nearby. In the mornings, I’d see residents heading to work, stopping at the corner bakery, doing their normal Amsterdam routine. There’s a great little restaurant just around the corner that serves proper Dutch food — not the touristy stuff — and the staff at 7B&B actually recommended it, which tells you they know their neighborhood. The Nieuwmarkt is close enough that you can grab fresh produce or just sit at one of the café terraces and people-watch.
Why Guests Love It
What makes this place work so well is that combination of authentic Amsterdam character and genuine hospitality. The location score of 9.5 isn’t just marketing fluff — you really can walk everywhere, but you’re also staying somewhere that feels like a real part of the city rather than a tourist bubble. For couples especially, there’s something special about having your own little corner of historic Amsterdam to come back to each night. It’s just a really solid, well-located place that understands what travelers actually want when they visit Amsterdam.

Nice little apartment in Amsterdam This is a great little apartment in the heart of the city. Our host was extremely kind and helpful. Stairs are a little tricky, but the host helps getting large suitcases up and down. Overall we were very happy with our experience.

Exceptional Everything was perfect, and the owner of the apartment was really cool
Exactly what was required. Simple, comfortable, accommodating, convenient
What could be improved: Some cooking appliances would send it to the next level. A toastie maker / panini press would be all it needs.
