First Impressions
Walking up to Apollofirst Boutique Hotel on the tree-lined Apollolaan, you immediately get that “this feels right” sensation. It’s one of those four-star places that doesn’t try too hard — the kind of understated elegance that Amsterdam does so well. The building itself has character, sitting comfortably among the upscale residential blocks of Oud Zuid, and honestly, you’d almost mistake it for a very chic private residence if not for the discreet signage.
Location & Neighborhood
Here’s what I love about staying in this part of Amsterdam — you’re actually living like a local rather than being stuck in the tourist bubble. The Museumplein is just a ten-minute walk away, which means you can hit the Van Gogh Museum or Rijksmuseum without fighting through crowds from the city center. Plus, there’s something really satisfying about strolling down these wide, elegant streets lined with those gorgeous Amsterdam School buildings. The neighborhood has that refined residential feel, but you’re never far from a good café or restaurant when you need it.
The Room Experience
The room I stayed in was what I’d call thoughtfully designed — not flashy, but everything just worked. The beds are genuinely comfortable (I’m picky about this), and there’s enough space to actually unpack your suitcase, which is more than you can say for a lot of Amsterdam hotels. What struck me most was the attention to detail — quality linens, good lighting for reading, and windows that actually open properly. The bathroom was compact but well-planned, with a shower that had proper water pressure.
Service & Amenities
The staff here gets it right — they’re helpful without being hovering, professional without being stiff. I mean, this isn’t a massive hotel with every bell and whistle, but what they do have works well. There’s parking available, which if you’ve ever tried to park in Amsterdam, you’ll know is worth its weight in gold. The breakfast setup is solid too — fresh ingredients, local touches, and strong coffee that actually wakes you up.
Why Guests Love It
What keeps people coming back to Apollofirst Boutique Hotel is that it strikes this perfect balance between being sophisticated and comfortable. You’re not paying for marble lobbies or celebrity chef restaurants, but you are getting a place that understands what travelers actually want — a good night’s sleep, a decent shower, and a location that lets you experience Amsterdam beyond the red-light district and canal boat tours. It’s the kind of place where you can imagine staying for a week and still discovering new things about the neighborhood each day.
Hotels in Amsterdam line historic canals, museum quarters, and buzzing neighborhoods filled with cozy cafés.

What Our Guests Say
Without question, one of the best hotel experiences I’ve ever had. The hotel is absolutely gorgeous! Attention has been paid to every aspect, from the decor, the room amenities, the breakfast menu and service and the exceptional care in the hospitality of all of the staff. If our plans ever take us back to Amsterdam, I will not hesitate to stay at Apollofirst hotel again.
What could be improved: Location, architecture and interior design elements, staff, amenities and food.
Hotel made my Amsterdam experience The hotel will exceed all your expectations. It is purposely an old hotel but you won't see one cobweb or a spider. Staff is extremely friendly. This part of Amsterdam is also beautiful, there is a lot of parking space in front of the hotel. Bathroom is so large it's almost the size of a room which is very spacious. I definitely know where I'll be staying next time I come to Amsterdam!
Exceptional Amazing Hotel, located in a beautiful part of Amsterdam.
Once you have explored the city, take time to explore the area around the hotel.
We found some wonderfully quaint old Amsterdam streets filled with amazing architecture, cafés and shopping.
Wonder down Cornelis Schuystraat. You'll be amazed.
We will certainly be back if ever in Amaredam again.
What could be improved: Nothing.
Just book this room already! Room was a very generous size, with lots of amenities. Fridge, Iron and ironing board, easy to use safe, Tea and Coffee facilities. If you have the Do Not Disturb sign up, the staff will leave fresh towels, glasses and tea/coffee outside your room.
Bathroom very modern and spotless. Good shower pressure and temperature.
The dining room is very nice, with a fantastic selection of food to suit all tastes.
The staff are very helpful, and willing to help out whenever they can.
Hotel is in a fantastic location, close to local amenities and public transport.
When we checked out, the staff were happy to look after our cases for the day in their secure cloakroom using a ticket system.
Hoping to return very soon!
What could be improved: On one occasion, we could hear running water from the adjacent room, but you need to remember it is an old building, so the walls are likely to be thinner. Don't let that put you off booking!
a very pleasant short stay . loved the room, the bath tub and the comfortable bed and soft duvet. breakfast was very nice and good options for me .
fruits at the entrance and water . very nice . some sweets also at the entrance which was pleasant.
What could be improved: nothing actually. all was good . nothing to complain about my stay . all was good
A lovely character filled hotel in quiet neighbourhood with great staff The staff were brilliant, the hotel was full of character and history but also very comfortable. The neighbourhood was lovely and quiet but there was still a range of restaurants and access to central Amsterdam was easy by tram and the museums were within walking distance
What could be improved: Amsterdam has outrageously expensive accommodation so it was very pricey.
Had a great stay here. Stayed for 4 days and checked out all kinds of places in the city Great location with easy access to everything in the city by walk or public transit

What could be improved: Charming room were really nice and luminous great location
