First Impressions
When I first spotted the Amsterdam-Houseboat-Amstel moored along Nicolaas Witsenkade, I honestly thought I’d gotten the address wrong — it looks more like someone’s charming private yacht than a hotel. This four-star floating accommodation sits right in Amsterdam City Centre, and you know what? The novelty doesn’t wear off, even after you’ve settled in for a few nights.
The Floating Experience
Living on the water is… well, it’s exactly what you’d expect and nothing like you’d imagine at the same time. There’s this gentle rocking motion that becomes oddly comforting (though if you’re prone to seasickness, maybe think twice). The room feels surprisingly spacious for a boat, and the windows offer these incredible water-level views of the Amstel that change throughout the day as light hits the canal differently.
Location & Neighborhood
Nicolaas Witsenkade puts you in this perfect sweet spot — close enough to walk to the major museums and Dam Square, but far enough from the chaos that you can actually hear yourself think. I mean, you’re literally floating next to some of Amsterdam’s most expensive real estate, watching locals bike past on their morning commutes. The nearest tram stop is maybe a five-minute walk, which honestly beats dealing with the crowded central areas.
What Makes It Special
The whole setup feels like staying at a friend’s place — if your friend happened to own a beautifully maintained houseboat with all the modern amenities. There’s something magical about making your morning coffee while watching the city wake up from water level. The staff (well, really it’s more like friendly hosts) know their stuff about both the boat and the city, and they’re genuinely helpful without being overly formal about it.
Why Guests Love It
Look, this isn’t your typical hotel experience, and that’s exactly the point. You’re getting something uniquely Amsterdam — a chance to live like a local in one of the city’s most distinctive housing styles. The 8.8 rating makes sense when you consider that guests aren’t just paying for a bed, they’re paying for an experience that’s actually authentic to the city. Sure, it might not be for everyone, but if you want to tell people back home that you literally lived on Amsterdam’s canals, this is how you do it right.

Relaxing 2 day trip in Amsterdam The location was wonderful. The beds were extremely comfortable. I loved the view of the water it was so fun to watch the boats go by.

Lovely It was perfect after spending the day sightseeing to come back to a nice comfortable and quiet space. It's very relaxing and enjoyed it very much. We wish we planned an extra day just to hang out here. Next time we will remember that!
Exceptional Great location, comfy houseboat, and —most important in August— air conditioning. It was almost 30C while we were in Amsterdam, sleeping at night was much more comfortable thanks to the airco.
Really fun experience! This was a great place to stay since have been to Amsterdam a few times. It was fun to watch the boats go by and have the space of an apartment instead of hotel.
Spacious and comfortable stay in a great location Very spacious compared to hotels of this price range. Comfortably fits 4 people. Excellent location. Clear check in instructions.

Wonderful to be in the heart of Amstereday! Great location--easy to walk everywhere, especially the museums. So fun to watch all the action on the canal. Instructions to finding, entering and enjoying the houseboat were detailed and simple.
Great experience, i would definitely recommend! Quiet, comfortable and walkable!
What could be improved: Could use a few more towels. Wash clothes for face and shower and hand towels. The big towels were great for drying off after shower.
Best spot in Amsterdam Clean, tidy, had everything you needed! Perfect location, host really responsive and check in was smooth. Brilliant stay, best place we’ve stayed in Amsterdam and we’ve been 6 times!
