When I first walked into Amsterdam Barangay, I honestly wasn’t sure what to expect from the name — but the moment you step through the doors on Herenstraat, it all makes sense. This four-star boutique hotel sits right in the heart of Amsterdam‘s city center, and there’s something immediately welcoming about the way they’ve blended Filipino hospitality with Dutch canal house charm. The reception area feels more like stepping into someone’s stylishly renovated home than a typical hotel lobby.

Location & Getting Around

You know what I love about this spot? You’re literally a two-minute walk from the Nine Streets (De Negen Straatjes) shopping district, and the Anne Frank House is practically around the corner. I mean, you can roll out of bed and be at some of Amsterdam’s best vintage shops and cafes before most tourists even finish breakfast. The Westerkerk bell tower is so close you’ll hear the carillon concerts from your window — which sounds annoying but is actually pretty magical.

The Room Experience

My room was on the third floor, and honestly, the climb up those narrow Dutch stairs is part of the authentic experience (though they do warn you about this). The space itself surprised me — much larger than typical Amsterdam hotel rooms, with these gorgeous tall windows that flood everything with natural light. The design walks this perfect line between modern comfort and respecting the 17th-century building’s character, and the bed was genuinely one of the most comfortable I’ve slept in during my travels through Europe.

Breakfast & Dining

Breakfast happens in their ground-floor restaurant, and it’s where the Filipino influence really shines through. Sure, you get your Dutch cheeses and fresh bread, but they also offer things like longsilog and amazing coffee that actually tastes like coffee (not the weak stuff you sometimes get at European hotels). The staff here genuinely seems to care about your morning — they remember how you like your eggs after just one day, which is a small thing that makes a big difference.
