Albert Cuyp Studio

First Impressions Walking up to Albert Cuyp Studio on Albert Cuijpstraat, you immediately get that authentic Amsterdam vibe — you know, the kind where you're staying in a real neighborhood rather than some touristy bubble.

First Impressions

Walking up to Albert Cuyp Studio on Albert Cuijpstraat, you immediately get that authentic Amsterdam vibe — you know, the kind where you’re staying in a real neighborhood rather than some touristy bubble. This four-star property sits right in the heart of one of the city’s most beloved areas, and honestly, the location alone makes it worth considering. The building has that classic Dutch charm without trying too hard, and there’s something refreshing about checking into a place that feels genuinely local.

The Neighborhood Scene

Here’s what I love about this spot — you’re literally steps away from the famous Albert Cuyp Market, which means fresh stroopwafels and local cheese are basically your neighbors. The De Pijp district has this perfect mix of locals grabbing coffee and visitors exploring, so you never feel like you’re in a tourist trap. I mean, couples absolutely rave about this area (they rate it 8.7 out of 10), and after spending time here, I totally get why. You can walk to the Rijksmuseum in about fifteen minutes, but you’re also surrounded by cozy brown cafés and that authentic Amsterdam street life that makes the city special.

Your Space

The studio setup works really well — it’s compact but thoughtfully designed, which is exactly what you want in Amsterdam where space is premium. Your room feels more like a mini apartment than a typical hotel setup, and there’s actually enough space to spread out a bit. The kitchenette is surprisingly functional if you want to grab some local ingredients from the market downstairs and have a quiet morning in. What struck me most was how they’ve managed to make a smaller space feel comfortable rather than cramped — that’s not always easy to pull off.

Daily Rhythms

Mornings here have their own rhythm — you’ll hear the market vendors setting up below, which honestly becomes part of the charm rather than a disturbance. The whole area comes alive early, but in a gentle way that makes you want to get out and explore. There’s a great little restaurant just around the corner that locals frequent, and you’ll find yourself naturally falling into the neighborhood’s pace. The property’s location score of 8.5 isn’t just a number — you really feel it when you’re walking everywhere instead of figuring out transit.

Why Guests Love It

What keeps people coming back is that perfect balance of being central without being chaotic. You’re in one of Amsterdam’s top-rated areas, but you’re experiencing it like someone who actually lives here rather than just passing through. The studio gives you independence when you want it, but you’re surrounded by enough local life that you never feel isolated. It’s the kind of place where you end up staying an extra day just because you’ve gotten comfortable with the morning coffee routine and evening market stroll — and honestly, that’s exactly what a good Amsterdam stay should feel like.

Best hotels in Amsterdam blend canal-view balconies, design interiors, and farm-to-table breakfast spreads.

Nightmare Localization

What could be improved: It was a nightmare.
Not clean at all
Bed bugs in the bed, the walls and some furniture.
The owner did not reply to any of my calls and messages.

Avoid it.

Great apartment in a great location. Expect some street noise and challenge with building’s stairway The location of the apartment is excellent, right in the middle of the vibrant Albert Cuyp Market. Many food, drink, clothing, and other stalls are just steps away, along with plenty of cafés and restaurants. Another plus is that the tram stop to Central Station is only a three-minute walk. As Jews, we also found the location convenient, as it’s very close to Bet Chabad, with a kosher restaurant and kosher grocery on the same block.
The room itself was nice and clean, well-equipped, and having a kitchen and fridge was very useful.
The hosts, Angelo and Denice, were very kind, and whenever we raised concerns or requests, they addressed them promptly.

What could be improved: Although we had a nice stay, a few things did bother us:

-Ascending and descending the stairs was quite a challenge, especially when we first arrived with our large bags. The stairway is very steep and narrow, and carrying heavy items up to the third floor was exhausting. Because the stairs are so narrow, it was also difficult to pass when someone else from the building was coming the opposite way. Unfortunately, there is no elevator in the building.

-The market below was quite noisy. On some mornings, we were woken up early by the loud sounds of vendors dragging and setting up their booths, which made our mornings less pleasant. In addition, the curtains were hard to close completely, so sunlight came through and disturbed our sleep.

-The price was quite expensive, even considering the good value we received. More than that, we had to pay most of it in cash, which was inconvenient for us.

Adequate in good location but not that memorable Self contained,
good location and
included a washing machine

What could be improved: The 3 flights of very steep steps (hard with heavy suitcases)
The mattress and pillows were lumpy
It was a bit run down

Good good location

What could be improved: Is not possible to use the kitchen (no hob), the bathroom is very small (difficult to use the sink), improvised apartment aspect, the apartment is on the third floor, has steep stairs, and is difficult to carry luggage.

Very good The location is perfect, in an interesting neighborhood and close to the center. The studio had all we needed and was very clean. Would definitely go back for future stays.

What could be improved: Mattress was rather soft for my liking, but it is a matter of preferences.
