First Impressions
Walking up to A-Train Hotel on Prins Hendrikkade, you can’t miss the building — it’s this solid, traditional Dutch structure that somehow feels both historic and welcoming. The entrance is understated but clean, which honestly sets the right expectation for what you’re getting: a reliable three-star place that doesn’t try to be something it isn’t. You know what I mean — sometimes the best hotels are the ones that just do the basics really well.
Location & Neighborhood
Here’s the thing about staying right in Amsterdam City Centre — you’re literally steps from everything that matters. I mean, Central Station is practically around the corner, which makes getting to and from Schiphol ridiculously easy. But what I actually love about this spot is how you’re close enough to walk to the Red Light District and Dam Square, yet the street itself doesn’t feel overwhelming with tourists stumbling around at all hours. The area has this nice mix of locals heading to work and visitors exploring, which gives it a more authentic neighborhood feel.
The Room Experience
The room I stayed in was compact — well, this is Amsterdam, so that’s expected — but thoughtfully laid out. The bed was comfortable enough for a solid night’s sleep, and the bathroom, while small, had everything working properly with decent water pressure. What surprised me was how quiet it was considering you’re on a busy street; the windows actually do their job of blocking out the tram noise. There’s free Wi-Fi that actually works consistently, which honestly isn’t always a given in older buildings like this.
Daily Rhythms
Breakfast happens in their small dining area downstairs, and it’s a simple continental setup — nothing fancy, but fresh bread, decent coffee, and the usual Dutch cheese and cold cuts. I actually preferred grabbing coffee from one of the local cafés nearby, since part of the fun of staying in the city center is experiencing those morning routines alongside locals. The front desk staff speaks excellent English and genuinely seems to enjoy helping with directions or recommendations, which makes a difference when you’re trying to navigate a new city.
Why Guests Love It
Look, A-Train Hotel isn’t going to wow you with elaborate amenities or designer interiors, but it delivers exactly what most travelers actually need: a clean, comfortable base in an excellent location at a fair price. The 8.6 rating makes sense because it’s the kind of place where everything works as it should — the shower has hot water, the bed is comfortable, and you can walk to major attractions without dealing with complicated public transport. Sometimes that reliability is worth more than flashy extras, especially when you’re spending most of your time exploring the canals and museums anyway.
Hotels in Amsterdam line historic canals, museum quarters, and buzzing neighborhoods filled with cozy cafés.

What Our Guests Say
Staff , historic vintage train pictures and breakfast and coffeee tea anytime made it an excellent hotel. I will veryhig Location ideal and excellent for transportation, restaurants, shops etc
What could be improved: Bathroom shower space could have been made a little more spacious and the shower floor a little rough because it was a little slippery
Perfect location and an extremely accommodating staff and comfortable bed and bath. Your staff was family. Caring, friendly, very accommodating
What could be improved: Believe it or not I missed not having a face cloth, but there were certainly sufficient towels.

Superb The hotel though is small as expected in Amsterdam coz all there buildings are small. It's located very near to Central Station, next door is supermarket AH, souvenir stores and walkable to most of the city centre attractions.
The daily breakfast is simple but nice, the crispy croissants and 24 hours free coffee and water machine. The rooms has a microwave too, a bonus point to heat up food.
Will definitely stay here again if I'm back to Amsterdam.
** sorry I didn't take pictures of the room, but it's exactly shown in booking.com apps
What could be improved: As expected, the room size and bathroom are small.
