First Impressions

Walking up to A B&B Amsterdam on Prinsengracht, you immediately know you’ve found something special. This four-star gem sits right along one of Amsterdam‘s most iconic canals, and honestly — the location couldn’t be more perfect if you tried. The building itself has that classic Amsterdam charm, tall and narrow with those distinctive windows that seem to watch over the canal traffic below.

The Heart of Amsterdam

What really struck me about this place is how genuinely central it is. I mean, you’re literally in Amsterdam City Centre, but it’s not touristy-central where you can’t escape the crowds. Prinsengracht has this perfect balance — you’ve got the authentic canal-side atmosphere, but you can actually walk to the major museums, the Jordaan district, and those little brown cafés without feeling like you’re fighting through tourist hordes. The couples who stay here absolutely love it (they rate the location 9.9, which honestly makes total sense), and I can see why — there’s something romantic about stepping out your door onto one of the city’s most beautiful canals.

The Room Experience

Now, let’s talk about the room situation, because this is where A B&B Amsterdam really delivers. The beds here are genuinely comfortable — and I’m someone who’s pretty picky about sleep quality when traveling. There’s something about the setup that just works; maybe it’s the quiet despite being in the city center, or the way the rooms are designed to feel cozy rather than cramped. The space feels thoughtfully put together, not like someone just threw some furniture into a canal house and called it a day.

What Makes It Work

You know what I appreciate most about this place? It feels like staying at someone’s well-appointed home rather than a generic hotel. The B&B aspect means you get that personal touch — the owners actually seem to care about your experience, which is refreshing. The building has character (those old Amsterdam houses always do), but they’ve managed to make it comfortable for modern travelers without losing that authentic feel. Plus, being right on the canal means you get those classic Amsterdam views that everyone comes here for.

Why Guests Love It

With a 9.5 rating, guests clearly connect with what this place offers. It’s that sweet spot between authentic Amsterdam living and actual comfort — you’re not sacrificing modern amenities for charm, or vice versa. The location score of 9.9 tells the whole story really; you can walk everywhere you want to go, but you’re staying somewhere that feels like the real Amsterdam rather than a tourist bubble. For couples especially, there’s something magical about having coffee by the canal in the morning, then being able to explore the city on foot and return to your own little slice of canal-side Amsterdam in the evening.

Lovely spot next to the canal Great location on prinsegracht with view of the canal. Easy to walk everywhere and tram only about 50m away. Apartment has everything you need to make it home away from home.... kettle, small fridge and basic cutlery and crockery

Comfy stay with a view! Location Location Location! Comfy Bed and wonderful view out over the Prinsengracht

What could be improved: You do have to get use to a typical Dutch Staircase! Of course this only adds the charm to your stay but less mobile may find it difficult

Exceptional Willem was a superb host , helpful and very interesting conversationalist. Helped carry my wife's bag up the steep stairs which were a unique attraction in themselves.
Location is very central without the hustle bustle of the City Centre. Beautiful view of the canal from the window. Lots of bars and restaurants with different cuisines around the area
His 2 cats Max and Burt were an added attraction. Cute , cuddly and very friendly.
Came back with great memories. Thanks Willem !

A real gem in the heart of the most wonderful city. This was our first visit to Amsterdam and A B&B was an exceptional find! Our experience of the city was made all the more special staying in a such a vibrant area.
We got a real feel of Amsterdam staying in a traditional house by the canal and we loved the buzz of the restaurants and cafes from the street below. The large bay window meant that we never missed a moment of what Amsterdam has to offer.
The host was attentive, friendly and knowledgeable. He greeted us with a welcoming smile and gave us lots of great information to help make the most of our stay.
If we ever return to Amsterdam we would only want to stay here!

What could be improved: Absolutely nothing! We hope to come back soon.

Great location and view on the canal, walking distance to most attractions, bars and restaurants. Great location, close and walking distance to most attractions and places we wanted to visit and the view on the canal was great too. Host was very helping us navigate and provided suggestions for places to go.

What could be improved: Whenever someone was walking up or down the stairs you could hear it from inside the room.

Absolutely fantastic! Everything was great! The location, the host (and his cats). The room was also exceptionally clean and comfortable. We loved our stay and hope to come back soon.

Beautiful canal view with Lovely Host Willheim was very accommodating. It was quite warm while we were there and he got a fan, made sure it was cleaned really well and delivered it to our room. He also gave us a little baggie of laundry detergent when I enquired where there was a laundromat. Willheim was readily available to answer questions as well. A Lovely stay. The 2 cats were adorable but just know you are living in their house and they will visit. But you could put them out. I loved having Max around occasionally.

What could be improved: A microwave would have been nice and somone else mentioned comfy chairs at the bay window. The canal view is gorgeous and would have been nice to have 2 small but comfortable chairs to have a drink in your room but there are nice places to sit at the restaurants right down on the street.

Very good The staff was extremely friendly and helpful and the location is excellent. We walked everywhere we needed to go. The room has large windows with a very nice view of the canal.

What could be improved: Room was small but pleasant. The bathroom was very small with a tiny tiny sink. Stairway narrow and steep which was OK for us but would be a challenge for some people.

We felt integrated into life in Amsterdam! During our time in Amsterdam, my husband and I were overwhelmed by the kindness of the people, which began with our stay at a B&B. Willem greeted us as soon as we got out of our cab and assisted us with our luggage up the very steep winding stairs to the third floor. He showed us how to do it as easily as possible and it helped a lot!

We had the upper room bedroom, and our bathroom was up another flight of stairs. Both rooms were comfortable, spacious, and light-filled. Climbing the stairs in the middle of the night was not ideal, but it added to the charm of our stay. We enjoyed sitting in the little bedroom nook overlooking the canal.

Willem and his friends often sit in front of the house in the evenings with some wine and cheese. They graciously invited us to join in their conversation. It was wonderful to meet many of his neighbors and friends.

The neighborhood is a bit removed from some of the main tourist areas, but also has several fantastic restaurants within a short walk, and the entire city is very walkable. I suggest renting a bike from Black Bikes around the corner. But be careful, biking is serious business in Amsterdam.

What could be improved: We enjoyed everything about our stay. Some people complain about the stairs, and they are steep. But my husband and I were able to get our 100 pounds of luggage up there with little difficulty, and Willem assisted. I think it added to the charm of our stay.
